Reading series books

A couple of columns from Amy Goldsmith writing in Knowledge Quest about the importance of series reading "examining why series books are useful, why they are subtly challenging to support, and how to overcome support obstacles to launch more lifelong readers... "

Series books can give the newly independent reader what they need and want: "the exact same book again, but different" (Rosen, 2000, p. 39).

  1. Teenage boys absolutely LOVE series books! They are always waiting in anticipation for the next in a series by Robert Muchamore or Anthony Horowitz. Oh! I must rush to Storytime and get my copies of Crocodile Tears - due out today!

Question: Are series books as popular with girls?

  2. Totally agree Dee with the teenage boys and series. But girls wouldn't be that far behind. No surprise - I'm picking up our two copies of Crocodile Tears today . . .
